... into the North Sea!

On the Istenberg, where the Bruchhauser Steine stand, runs the Rhine-Weser watershed. Watersheds are natural boundaries defined by height differences in the landscape: as if through a funnel, the water that falls as rain or snow is channelled down slopes into a river. Water falling on the western side of the Istenberg flows via small streams into the Ruhr which eventually flows into the Rhine. Water falling to the east flows into the Weser via the Hoppecke and the Diemel. Via the Rhine and the Weser, the water finally reaches the North Sea.
