This fallen rock is the scene of a legend told among the people.
Many, many years ago, the Count of Bruchhausen had two daughters. One of them was called Pia. She became a nun in the convent on the Borberg above Olsberg. Life in the convent was hard and strictly regulated. When her sister’s wedding was coming up, the superior of the convent did not allow her to attend the celebration at Bruchhausen Castle.
But Pia the nun did not let this stop her from going to her sister’s wedding. So she snuck out of the convent disguised as a maid and had a wonderful celebration with her sister. Pia made her way briskly home to the convent after the ceremony. She was walking along the Bornstein when suddenly a terrible thunderstorm came up. There was a violent flash of lightning and a crash. This large lump then fell from the Bornstein and buried poor Pia under it.
