Diverse bird life

If you listen into the forest, you can hear chirping and tweeting everywhere! After all, the Bruchhauser Steine provide a home for many birds. This includes the bird species we know from our home garden: blackbirds, thrushes and tits. In addition, the surrounding forests are once again known as breeding grounds for the common raven.

Special protection for special birds

The Bruchhauser Steine are also home to birds that are considered particularly worthy of protection. These include the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl as a top priority. But also the black woodpecker, the grey-headed woodpecker as well as the Tengmalm’s owl have their home in the forests around the rocks. They find many sheltered and hidden places here to breed in peace. And quiet breeding places are not the only thing that’s available – they also find enough food here. By the way, Tengmalm’s owl does not actually belong to anyone of that name: rather, it is named after Swedish naturalist Peter Gustaf Tengmalm.
