But through a special science, dendrochronology, they can tell us a lot. If you look at the rings inside the tree trunk, you can read the age of the tree. Beyond that, it is also possible to identify the amount of precipitation, disease and pest infestation as well as dry and wet periods. And to the trained scientist, the annual rings even reveal when a tree began to grow and when it was felled.
